Teacher Tuesday: Get to Know Me Challenge

Hello friends! Ugh, my summer is pretty much over! #insertsadface

Actually, for some reason, I thought our official return date was next Tuesday but IT’S NOT! It’s actually the following Tuesday.  I always lose track of the days during the summer!  So, as I’m getting ready to go back in to the classroom with kids for the first time since March 2020, I decided to add a new topic to the blog called Teacher Tuesday! I thought it might be interesting to share some teacher things or things that are happening in my classroom.  The beginning of the year is so exciting!

So I went in to my classroom today to try and get organized. (No, that is definitely not the exciting part!) I have a huge cabinet and drawers that I have not organized in YEARS! The drawers hold mostly construction paper and drawing paper, but it was all mixed together.  I actually went through every piece of paper and sorted it by color! Now I’m trying to decide how to store it all!  I’ll share the results once I get it figured out!

Ugh, what a mess! I was just shoving things in when we shut down back in March 2020!

Anyway, last week on Instagram, @sweetnsauerfirsties posted a Get to Know Me Teacher Challenge and I thought it would be fun to share my responses here.

#1 Years Teaching: So this will be Year 26 for me! Hard to believe since I never actually wanted to be a teacher.  My degree is in Psychology. However, you can’t do anything in Psychology without a Master’s Degree, at the very least. Once I graduated, I moved back home and spent the spring working as a substitute teacher. I enjoyed it! I thought, “How much easier would it be if I was the actual teacher?” Quick note: teaching is NOT easy! Anyway, I registered for the Alternative Certification Program, took some classes over the summer and was hired that Fall! I taught my first two years in fourth grade. I loved it! That is such a great age! I then was moved to first grade and spent 7 years teaching that.  I realized I loved teaching the littles! I then taught 3 years in kindergarten before getting married and moving to Michigan. I was hired at my current school and taught 3 years in first grade, 9 years in kindergarten and now I’m starting my second year back in first grade! (Wow, that was a whole lot just to say I’ve been teaching 26 years!!)

#2 Grades Taught: I have taught Kindergarten, First and Fourth.

#3 Favorite Subject: My favorite subject to teach is reading! I love watching as it all starts making sense and everything comes together. Kids are so proud when they realize they can read! The joy they have is awesome!

#4 Favorite Book: This is a hard one!

#5 In 10 years I willhopefully be retired! As much as I enjoy teaching, I have other goals I want to accomplish! My dream is to buy an RV and spend my time traveling around the United States and soaking up all the beauty of this country! In fact, the RV is one of the things pushing me to my goal of being debt free!

Minnie Winnie Winnebago RV

This is what I’m thinking! A Minnie Winnie! It’s a Winnebago! It should be small enough to be easy to maneuver but still has room for all 4 of us (and probably the dogs too)! Isn’t it cute???!!!

#6 After school I like to… Honestly, I like to sit in my quiet classroom for a while to decompress. It’s usually loud and active in an early elementary classroom! Before I go home to my loud and active children, I like to sit and enjoy some quiet time!

#7 Favorite Drink Usually I enjoy a good Diet Coke from McDonald’s (don’t know why theirs is so good – not a fan of the food, though!), but lately I have been trying to up my water game! I’ve been enjoying ice cold water with some Jordan’s skinny syrups.  My favorites right now are the coconut flavor and the Unicorn flavor.  I love coconut flavored anything during the summer and the Unicorn flavor is fruity! So good!

#8 Favorite Food I don’t know that I have a FAVORITE food.  I’m pretty open to lots of foods and I love trying new recipes. Currently, one of the meals in our rotation that I am loving is Pesto Chicken with roasted broccoli.  Super easy and super delish! Hubby loves it and kids love it so I have been making it often!!

If you are a teacher, I would love to know your responses! How long have you been teaching?

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great week!
