The Maryland Office of the Attorney General on Friday released footage from the body-worn cameras of two Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies showing the aftermath of a fatal Rockville Pike crash following an attempted traffic stop in late April.

Three days after the April 27 two-car collision near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Twinbrook Parkway that left one driver dead, state law enforcement authorities identified the woman who died as 25-year-old Jasmin Gimon of Adelphi.

Around 2:25 a.m. on April 27, two on-duty Montgomery County sheriff deputies, riding in a marked police cruiser were “in the area of Rockville Pike near Flanders Avenue, when they observed a Dodge sedan traveling north on Rockville Pike at a high rate of speed,” according to a statement by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

The deputies, identified as Deputy Connor Clifford and Deputy Paul Nelson, activated their emergency equipment about 35 seconds later and were attempting to locate the Dodge sedan when they came upon a two-car collision involving the Dodge.

A preliminary investigation found that the Dodge sedan collided with a Honda sedan that was turning onto Rockville Pike to head south.

Montgomery Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responding to the collision found two occupied vehicles, with one having rolled over, MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos wrote on social media at the time.

Emergency responders extricated the occupants of the vehicles, according to Pazos. The driver of the Honda, Gimon, was pronounced dead on the scene. An adult female passenger in the Dodge was transported in critical condition to a trauma hospital, Pazos wrote.

The man driving the Dodge sedan fled the collision on foot and was caught by police a short time later, according to the statement. No information has been provided about the man’s identity or whether he has been charged in the incident.

The deputies’ body camera footage shows the two officers inside their cruiser as they search for the Dodge sedan and later getting out to check on the cars involved in the collision. The Dodge was flipped upside down with the driver’s side door open and smoke coming from the engine.

Nelson’s camera footage shows him getting out of the cruiser and attempting to get the attention of Gimon in the driver’s seat. The driver’s side door was smashed upon impact. Nelson can be heard asking if other occupants were in the car and if Gimon could hear him.

As MCFRS crews arrive, Nelson and other officers can be heard on the video telling them that Gimon still had a “very faint” pulse.

Witnesses at the scene can be heard on the video telling at least one of the deputies that they saw the driver of the Dodge sedan running away after the crash.
