State law enforcement authorities have identified the woman who died in Saturday’s fatal two-vehicle collision on Rockville Pike as well as the two Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies involved in an attempted traffic stop related to the crash.

Jasmin Gimon, 25, of Adelphi was killed in the collision that occurred early Saturday near Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, which is investigating the incident along with Maryland state police.

The sheriff’s deputies have been identified as Deputy Connor Clifford, a six-year veteran; and Deputy Paul Nelson, a two-year veteran, according to the statement. Both men are assigned to the domestic violence division.

The investigations division continues to look into the incident, which unfolded after the two on-duty deputies, who were riding together in a marked police cruiser in the area of Rockville Pike near Flanders Avenue, “observed a Dodge sedan traveling north on Rockville Pike at a high rate of speed” at about 2:25 a.m., according to a statement released Saturday by the attorney general’s office.

Saturday’s statement said the deputies activated their emergency equipment about 35 seconds later. Then, while attempting to locate the Dodge sedan, the deputies “came upon a two-car collision involving the Dodge” near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Twinbrook Parkway.

According to a preliminary investigation, the Dodge sedan collided with a Honda sedan driven by Gimon as she was turning south onto Rockville Pike.

Montgomery Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responding to the collision found two occupied vehicles, with one having rolled over, MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos wrote on social media.

The emergency responders extricated the occupants of the vehicles. Gimon was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who was a passenger in the Dodge sedan, which had rolled over, was transported in critical condition to a trauma hospital, according to authorities.

The man who was driving the Dodge fled the collision on foot and was caught by police a short time later, the statement said. No information was provided about whether the man has been charged in the incident.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of Rockville Pike were closed from Bou Avenue to Twinbrook Parkway and Rollins Avenue after the collision. The lanes remained closed until about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities.

The investigations division asks anyone with information about the collision to call 410-576-7070 or email IID@oag.state.md.us.
