Montgomery County police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide shooting Thursday morning on Southlawn Lane near Norbeck and Avery roads in Rockville, according to authorities.
The double shooting, which resulted in the deaths of two men, is being investigated as a homicide, police said on social media.
County police spokesperson Shiera Goff said the two men who died are “known to each other.” The men’s identities were not provided.
The incident also has been connected to a domestic-related shooting Wednesday evening in Laurel, according to authorities. The victim in that shooting in the 14200 block of Westmeath Drive was in “critical but stable condition” as of Thursday morning, according to Laurel police.
Roads in the area of the Rockville shooting, including part of eastbound Norbeck Road and both directions of Southlawn Lane, were closed after the incident, but reopened later Thursday morning.
Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews were initially dispatched around 7:51 a.m. to Montgomery Concrete Operations at 14901 Southlawn Lane in Rockville for the report of a shooting, according to radio transmissions. A man was reportedly shot three times and police were searching for a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with Maryland plates.
Upon arrival, officers found a 60-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man was transported to an area hospital where he later died, spokesperson Shiera Goff said.
Police also placed a lookout for the gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, Goff said. Officers later located the vehicle “a short distance away” and made a felony stop on the vehicle. As they approached the Toyota Tacoma, officers found a 54-year-old man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At 8:05 a.m., one responding officer reported that there was one occupant in the Toyota “who fired the shots. … There should not be any other people involved,” according to police radio transmissions.
Goff said the 54-year-old man was then transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
As officers responded to the incident, Laurel police notified county police that the Toyota was wanted in connection to a domestic shooting that occurred in Laurel last night, Goff said.
Laurel police also responded to the incident and were at the crime scene Thursday morning.
“We are working with Laurel police to identify whether or not the 54-year-old man in the Toyota Tacoma is the same person involved in the domestic [shooting in Laurel] from last night,” Goff said.
On Thursday afternoon, police announced Major Crimes detectives are working with Laurel police detectives who connected the Toyota Tacoma to Wednesday night’s domestic-related shooting.
Both men who died in the Rockville incident were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the manner and cause of death, according to police.
