A Rockville resident was one of two men convicted this week in connection with a 2023 shootout at a Monroe Street apartment complex, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Zachary Ciccantelli, 24, of Rockville and Callen Baker, 20, of Jefferson, Maryland, were convicted Wednesday by a Montgomery County Circuit Court jury of 18 counts of first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence and reckless endangerment, the state’s attorney’s office said in a statement.

The men each face a maximum sentence of 500 years in prison during sentencings scheduled for September, the statement said.

According to the statement, Ciccantelli and Baker arrived at the Fireside Park apartment complex in the 700 block of Monroe Street around 3:45 p.m. on March 1, 2023, and opened fire on a group of people recording a music video. Several of the males involved in the music video fired back and multiple bullets struck occupied apartment buildings in the neighborhood.

During an investigation, county police recovered more than 20 shell casings and one privately manufactured firearm from the scene.

Video collected by police from a nearby doorbell camera and a Montgomery County Public Schools bus captured the altercation as one person fled the shooting and Baker and Ciccantelli escaped in a getaway car, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Four people involved in the music video, who were suspected shooters, were also arrested, according to charging documents. The release from the state’s attorney’s office did not include information about those suspects.

“This is the kind of senseless violence that terrifies our community. The hail of gunfire occurred in a densely populated neighborhood in the middle of the day. There should be profound consequences for anyone who engages in this type of conduct, and we will urge the court to fashion an appropriate penalty at the time of sentencing,” State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in the release.
