Montgomery County police are investigating the death of a man who was found suffering from gunshot wounds Monday morning in Silver Spring, according to authorities.

Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded at about 9:45 a.m. to the report of a man who had been shot in 8000 block of 13th Street, police said Monday afternoon in a statement. The location is about a block from the county line with Washington, D.C.

Responding officers found a man suffering from “apparent gunshot wounds” in an alley, the statement said. The man was pronounced dead after lifesaving measures failed.

No suspect is in custody and detectives are investigating the death as a homicide, according to the statement.

Police said the identity of the man will be released following proper notification of the next of kin.
