Guillermo Portillo, M.D. specializes in adult therapy utilizing psychotherapy techniques and medication management. With a belief that combining medication and psychotherapy yields optimal results, Dr. Portillo engages patients in an integrative talk therapy approach, drawing from interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, and insight-oriented modalities to enhance the therapeutic relationship. He is also a board-certified Forensic Psychiatrist and Expert Witness. 

Dr. Portillo possesses extensive expertise in addressing depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and addictions. His practice encompasses emotional and identity development, multicultural issues, relationship difficulties, and the treatment of adults with concurrent medical conditions. Employing a biopsychosocial treatment approach, he diligently examines the biological, psychological, and social/environmental factors contributing to emotional distress. This approach aids in formulating accurate diagnoses and tailoring individualized treatment plans for each patient. Dr. Portillo provides psychiatric care and consultation in both English and Spanish. 

Having obtained undergraduate degrees in Biology and Classics from Brown University, Dr. Portillo pursued his medical degree and psychiatry residency at Temple University. He received extensive training in psychotherapy from distinguished psychiatrists at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. As Chief Resident, he showcased his leadership abilities and completed a forensic psychiatric fellowship at the University of Rochester. Currently, Dr. Portillo holds an adjunct clinical faculty position at Temple University Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. His expertise in forensic and emergency psychiatry has led him to deliver lectures in these areas. He is dual Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Clinical Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.
