Dr. John Carr is an accomplished psychiatrist specializing in adult and young adult treatment, with expertise in addiction, trauma, and various mental disorders. Board-certified in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry, he provides comprehensive care for anxiety disorders, mood disorders (including bipolar illness and depression), eating disorders, adult ADD/ADHD, trauma disorders, and impulse control disorders.
With extensive experience in substance abuse treatment, Dr. Carr guides patients through recovery from various addictions. He excels in working with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures, including the LGBTQ+ community, and collaborates with interpreters for effective communication.
Dr. Carr earned his undergraduate degree from Delta State University and his medical degree from the University of Mississippi. He completed post-graduate training in internal medicine at Louisiana State University. During his service in the United States Navy, he was recognized for his contributions during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Throughout his career, Dr. Carr held significant roles at esteemed institutions, including Chief Resident for Inpatient Adult Services and Psychiatric Urgent Care at the University of Maryland’s Sheppard Pratt Hospital. He specialized in addiction psychiatry as a fellow at the University of Maryland and served as Associate Medical Director/Staff Addiction Psychiatrist at the Kolmac Clinic. Previously, he served as Medical Director of Behavioral Health Services at Adventist Health Care/Washington Adventist Hospital.
