A 65-year-old man was charged with sexually abusing a minor while he served as the child’s tutor, according to Montgomery County police.

Adi Yousef Najjar of Germantown has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sex offenses, police announced Tuesday in a release.

The investigation into Najjar, conducted by the police department’s Special Victims Investigations Division and Montgomery County Child Welfare, began in June following a report of sexual abuse of a minor, the statement said.

According to police, the alleged assaults occurred between September 2022 and June 2024 when Najjar was the minor’s Islamic tutor.

Najjar turned himself in Wednesday to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville and was released on an unsecured personal bond, according to the statement. Attorney information for Najjar was not available Tuesday in online court records.

Detectives are “concerned” there may be other victims of alleged sexual abuse and are asking people to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
