MOM’s Organic Market is expected to open its new location on Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring in late summer this year, according to a MOM’s communications assistant.

The assistant, Alexis Champion, confirmed the opening timeframe on Wednesday but did not provide details on an exact date.

The grocery store chain recently received a commercial permit from the county for a $1.5 million buildout of its space at 8787 Georgia Ave., according to the county Department of Permitting Services database. Montgomery Newsletter first reported about the issuance of the permit.

The new store, located on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street, will be the retail anchor at the Bozzuto and Stonebridge mixed-use complex, the Atwell on Spring, which is under construction with an opening expected this year.

Located on the former site of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the $152 million project includes two seven-story residential buildings with a total of 375 apartments, ground-floor retail and a public courtyard.

MOM’s features gluten-free and vegan options, sustainable seafood, a health and wellness section and bulk teas, spices, honey, oils grains and more. In addition, the store will offer a recycling program for customers that accepts cell phones, tablets, batteries, compost, eyeglasses, shoes and corks.

The Silver Spring location will be the grocery chain’s third in the county. Its other stores are in Gaithersburg and Rockville.
