Two teenage boys have been charged with allegedly committing two armed carjackings near downtown Silver Spring in February, according to Montgomery County police.
Kelvin Lovell Hager, 18, is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville while a 14-year-old was arrested, charged and released to the custody of a guardian, police said Tuesday in a statement.
No attorney information for Hager was available Tuesday in online court records.
According to police, officers responded at about 10 p.m. Feb. 18 to a report of a carjacking in the 500 block of Thayer Avenue. At about 10:30 p.m., officers began investigating a report of a second armed carjacking in the 8700 block of Cameron Street and believed the same suspects committed the two thefts, the statement said.
During an investigation, detectives identified the 14-year-old as a suspect in the Thayer Avenue carjacking. Hager was later identified as another suspect in the Thayer Avenue carjacking.
Police obtained an arrest warrant May 5 for Hager, who was incarcerated in Washington, D.C., on unrelated charges, according to the statement.
He was transported to the county on July 29 after waiving his extradition rights.
Both teens were later charged for the Cameron Street carjacking as well, according to the statement.
