Democratic candidate April McClain Delaney has brought in nearly $2 million since October, and is leading all candidates for the Maryland 6th District Congressional race, according to the latest campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

However, more than $1 million of that amount has come from McClain Delaney’s own pocket, according to a loan disclosure statement in her report.

Candidates running in the May 14 primary election were required to file pre-primary campaign finance reports covering the period from April 1 through 24 by Friday. While these differ from the quarterly reports that candidates are also required to file, they provide a glimpse into candidates’ overall earning and spending totals throughout the course of their campaigns, as well as the financial health of their campaigns in the final weeks.

McClain Delaney’s campaign reported $1,173,254 in expenditures over the course of the campaign. She currently has $767,154 in cash on hand. McClain Delaney’s personal financing of her campaign has faced intense scrutiny from fellow Democratic candidate Del. Joe Vogel (D-Dist. 17) since third-quarter reports in April revealed she loaned her campaign $500,000. Vogel and McClain Delaney have launched attack ads targeted at each other and have criticized each other’s campaigns.

Vogel continues to follow McClain Delaney in fundraising totals, reporting that he raised $686,645 over the course of the campaign cycle. He reported $569,511 in expenditures and has $117,133 in cash on hand.

Vogel, who lives in Gaithersburg, was the first to enter the race in May 2023 after Rep. David Trone (D-Dist. 6) announced his run for retiring U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin’s (D-Md.) seat. McClain Delaney, an attorney with a telecommunications policy background who lives in Potomac, announced her campaign in October.
